My son's GF is so dumb. She's so dumb that she really should not be left alone...EVER because this is only the most recent dumb thing on a long list of dumb...

Obviously, if I am writing here, you know what she did! IDK what happened after b/c I wasn't there at his apartment when it happened.

I just noticed that after very recently moving him in 1/3 of the bottle of Dawn was used up. Then I started loading his dishwasher and noticed the blue liquid (about a teaspoon worth) in the detergent compartment!

Then I knew.

My son said he didn't know anything about it and that he hasn't washed dishes since he moved in, which I believe lol. He knows how to...just refuses!

hey thanks so much for posting this i had no idea thank god for you and thank god for the world wide web without both i would have a kitchen full of soap water i just did what you said salt vinegar and it worked like a charm no problems god bless you thank god i handled this issue before my girlfreind got home from work lol my son was laughing hes only 2 so he thought it was bath tub time

Thanks for the tip. Dish soap must have spilled onto one of the dishes we put in the dishwasher and we had a kitchen full of bubbles!

IF THAT DOESN'T WORK!!!!

I recommend these extra steps:

use vegetable oil instead of vinegar and
turn off the water going to the dish washer (then let it run through it's normal cycles)

thats what did it for me

What if the dishwasher is one of those that does not have the knob and is electronic? I am not sure how to get it to just the rinse cycle. Is there anything else I can do?

My boneheaded son informed my wife and I that we were out of dishwasher soap. My wife told him to look harder for some since he has a tendency to only look halfway. Sometime later, after the dishwasher was already running, my wife said “Oh, so you found some dishwasher soap?”. He replied, No, I used this.” as he showed us a bottle of regular dishsoap and stated, ” I thought you could use this kind”. Thankfully, we did not have a flood, but our dishwasher was full of soap bubbles. My wife asked him “Have you EVER seen me use this kind of soap in the dishwasher?” He gave us his patented “I think i’m dead” look and muttered “Nooooooo.” Thanks for the tip. (Kids, gotta love ‘em)

Glad I found this. I have no idea how soap got in the dishwasher. There is no one else here except my daughter and she hadn’t been using the soap. She’s 19 & doesn’t try to use the dishwasher. Not right now anyway. We just got it a week ago. (she had a wreck & lost most of her sight & hasn’t learned how to use the dishwasher yet.) Maybe the cat & dog did it! LOL

Well, you saved my husband...and our dishwasher.

We were ready to 'call it a day' with the dishwasher. Now we can wait until we're really ready to replace it. I only discovered what he did when I found the top of the dishwashing liquid container in the bottom of the dishwasher (thinking something was plugging/blocking the drain). When I found the plastic top in there and went to put it back on the container, I discovered what he put in the dishwasher - dish soap. UGH! He's been starting the dishwasher for years. He thought we were out of regular dishwasher liquid (we weren't!) so he used regular dish soap. Hopefull, never again!?

Finding the problem, I put the regular dishwasher soap in and started the cycle only to have another flood of bubbles and water run all over the kitchen floor. Hence, my search for a solution.

Thanks for your post. I will try it and it sounds like it will work...

I wasn’t thinking, and put the wrong stuff in my dishwasher. That desperation of what-in-the-world do i do now set in when the kitchen was full of soapy bubbles from the dishwasher. Thanks for this advice!!! Now, I know what to do, and knowing is half the battle

if you have a ready supply of snow, you can dump that it in the dishwasher instead of using energy-intensive ice-cubes.
