We don’t have flying cars yet, but Markus Fisher has a robotic bird that can fly:

Plenty of robots can fly — but none can fly like a real bird. That is, until Markus Fischer and his team at Festo built SmartBird, a large, lightweight robot, modeled on a seagull, that flies by flapping its wings. A soaring demo fresh from TEDGlobal 2011.

As great as Alex sounds, I’m really tired of his voice. Lion fixes this. There are several high quality voices for Mac OS X Lion, but you have to go fetch them.
I had heard there were more voices in OS X Lion, but when I went and checked all the ones I tried seemed to be the pre-Alex low quality versions. David’s post got me to go back and check again, and he’s right – there are a bunch of high-quality voices available now. The trick to finding them is to preview them, as David suggests. If they introduce themselves – ”Hello, my name is _____” – then you’ve found a new high-quality voice. Any other phrase, like, “Isn’t it nice to have a computer that talks to you,” is an indication of a low-quality pre-Alex voice.
It’s like something James Bond would have. →
