Linda Stone has a wonderful (and wonderfully short) post at the Huffington Post about what she terms “receptive distraction” and “deceptive distraction”. She posits that some distractions during your work such as taking a walk, getting a drink, and other quiet tasks allow you time to be reflective and can re-energize you when you get back to the task at hand. But other distractions such as email (and I assume Facebook, Twitter and the like) have the opposite effect.
What do you think?
