Started taking magnesium/potassium supplements as well as B12, and the twitching actually stopped within a couple of weeks! :) I also stopped drinking diet soda (just by coincidence). But it's gone!! YAY!!!

Like Angela, my twitch started in the left temple, 3 years ago. It starts out bad for a few months, then slowly went away. Then all of a sudden it starts over again. Doctors did all kinds of tests, found nothing. Neurologist found nothing and actually said I had no reason to come back to him about this again, he had no suggestions. Another doctor hasn't found anything. The funny thing is I've tried to rule out every possible thing, diet, stress, sleep, sitting position, computer use, had my eyes checked, stopped medications, you name it and this twitch just comes and goes for no reason. Each time it goes away, it stays away a little longer , but eventually it comes back. Right now it's moved a little back just above my left ear. When it's in full force, all I can do is take large amounts of a muscle relaxer and sleep it off, then it's gone for a couple of days (just sleeping doesn't help without the drugs).

I've never really thought of the water issue or bananas, but I'm gonna try it.

In the mean time, this has driven me insane......

Wow, what successful thread!

Jason, you're a star with this one. Bet you never imagined this thread would attract such enduring attention when you first posted it 3 years ago.

Well, like most that have wandered through, I, too, have a twitch in my 'lll' (left lower lid). It began a couple of days ago, but it wasn't until looking in the mirror this morning that I realised it was totally visible. In the past, when I've experienced the odd twitch, it's never been outwardly apparent. Oddly, I can't even feel the twitch today, but it's definitely twitching. It looks as though there's something living under there.

Well, I can make some correlations to some of the listed causes. For one; the past 3 weeks, I've been getting an average of 4 hours sleep per night. In the past 9 days, I've had 3 all-nighters. Additionally, we don't drink tap water, and we ran out of our usual supply of spring water 4 days ago. I do generally drink about 2 litres of water a day; however, my aversion to tap water has seen my intake greatly reduced. As a small aside, I'd like to encourage all who are reading to stop drinking tap water. Contrary to popular belief, chlorine and fluoride are not harmless chemicals. They are one reason we're seeing such a sharp increase in serious disease, and particularly in thyroid dysfunction. Chlorine combines to produce a number of carcinogens. Please do not assume that your governments will be ever watchful or caring about your health. They are as ignorant as the rest of us. And if changing something that is so heavily practiced means spending billions of dollars, you can bet it won't be changed until breaking point.

Back to topic - I've also been under significant stress lately, and these 3 things do, indeed, seem to be the big 3 triggers. Fatigue, dehydration, and stress. I have no doubt that the twitch will go away once these 3 triggers are under control.

Good health!

Richard -- The entire webpage took just a few seconds to load for me. Maybe it is your connection?

Anywho. I've had this eye twitch for over a week now and it is irritating, to put it lightly. I seem to be getting it once or twice an hour, which is nicer that getting it every few minutes, I suppose, but still.
I guess I'll end this before it becomes a huge rant.

I'm 45. So far the bananas haven't worked but I'm probably not eating enough. Guess I'll look into magnesium as well. My twitch is under my eye. I must get this abscessed tooth pulled and see if that alleviates the problem. It's on the same side as my twitch!

Wow, someone who's had this problem longer than me(Up the Pomp! I was getting scared when most of the posts listed their problem as lasting a few days or so. I've had mine about 8 months and getting worse. My eye doctor said it was because I needed reading glasses and my left eye was weaker than the right, thus making the right work harder. The reading glasses haven't helped & are driving me insane. I'm going to get some bananas tonight, for sure! I was also wondering if this twitch could be related to my abscessed tooth on the same side. Hmm. I'm getting old! All these ailments. I hate looking at a computer now, but that's my JOB! Time to change jobs, too.

Wow, too funny. This dates back to 2005? Well, under my left eye twitches so much that my face is numb now. I'm going to try potassium pills and magnesium. (allergic to bananas...) Hope this helps, and hope you all are doing better!

Found Jason's website about 18 months ago, but never posted previously. I had this problem for 18 months - under the left eye. I then started to notice it was spreading over to the right eye, so that at times I needed to blink both eyes. Not sure of the frequency, but I believe it was probably 10 times an hour. Taking advice from various sources - including this, I went out and bought a bunch of bananas and scoffed them - et voila!! After a day or so, I noticed it diminish - then disappear altogether!! I have now been largely (it still comes back on occasions) twitch-free for months!

oh, thank goodness for this site! i developed my twitch about two months ago -- started one evening at a party and hasn't stopped since. talked to my doc and he said to cut out caffeine (i can't seem to make it throught the day without morning coffee and a couple of diet cokes throughout the day)! anyway, as difficult as this was, gave it a shot w/ no success. someone mentioned it may be stress. i am currently planning a wedding - getting married next month! when i sat back and thought about how the twitch started, i realized the party i was at two months ago was the first time alot of people were asking me about wedding details in one night. now i pay very close attention to the twitch -- it's always there, but i've noticed it grows much stronger when wedding planning intensifies. not stressed about getting married, just about coordinating the day well! praying this thing stops as soon as the honeymoon begins!

My left eye stated twitching (the under eye area) on July 12th (Today is Aug. 3rd) and hasn't stopped. It doesn't twitch during the day, only after 8pm. I notice when I drink a glass of wine it makes it worse. This has never happened to me before. I wear contacts all day. It is driving me mad.

Hello,
My eye twitch is not on my eyelid as some of you mention, but just below that. This problem started halfway through my first semester as a grad student. This is the third stint of the twitching, which lasts about 2 weeks each time. I definately sleep enough, drink tons of water, exercise every day, eat incredibly healthy (but I may need to up the bananas), and feel stress free.
I do have allergies and taking decongestants consistantly seemed to help the last few times. The twitching stopped shortly after starting the decongestants.
As previous posts mention, it's good to hear I'm not the only one!

My Left eyelid twitch above the lashline developed a few months ago, and I ignored it at first (along with fatigue and some other symptoms I also ignored). The twitch progressively worsened until I finally went to the doctor. Turns out I was extremely Hypothyroid. It went away for the most part after 8 weeks of treatment, but recently the eye twitch has been worse again. Got my blood tested today and sure enough, my thyroid condition has worsened again.

Wow, I can't believe how long this twitching can go on. Mine started in my left temple almost two months ago and then extended to my lower left eye. The eye twitch has gone away but the temple twitch remains. The only change in my lifestyle was that I had started running three miles a day about two months before this started. My doctor sent me for a CAT scan with and without dye. There were no issues. A blood test showed that nothing was abnormal. She has suggested that I see an eye doctor and also a neurologist as they may be small siezures (I have never heard of small siezures lasting all day, seems I'd be dead by now). Has anyone had this problem? It is very frustrating and I am tired of going to the doctor ... I'll try some bananas for now : )

Hello all -

I have the twitch on my left temple. I thought it was hypertension. Blurred vison, nausea, headaches. So I went to the ER where the ruled that out. After I went to the eye speacialist and they stated that I had eye allergies that caused my headaches and eye strain.
They gave me antibiotic eye drops and told me to keep using my nasal spray and claritin.

Hope this helps and this twitch /headache goes away.

Regards,
Errol

This is too funny, there are so many people with crazy eye twitches. Have only had mine a couple of weeks but it's driving me kinda nuts. could probably do with more water, less caffiene and better sleep sometimes... Am hoping all our twitches stop soon. If it's any help i know that nobody has noticed mine and I'm sure it's the same for all you other twitchers.

I have had facial tics since 2004. I had an acustic neuroma (a brain tumor that is not cancer) in 1994 and had it removed. It came back in 2003. And I had radiation. A few months later I started facial tics. The Dr put me on neuronton and it helped for awhile. Now Years later when I am around people in public my facial stress is so bad that I want to run. I drink water constantly. I have days when the facial tics seem better. But then they come back. My Doctors says they are stress related. I have been on Xanas for 20 years or so but do not take it constantly. I use it and Loritab when in public and it does seem to help. Until I am stressed again. I feel like a freek and explain to people about my tics as then I feel more comfortable. I do feel stress is the cause. I do not feel stress like I did 20 years ago and feel that Xanax is not needed but when I take it like I should it does control my facial tics. It is a struggle but just writing this has caused me to tic. I to thought the light efected my tics. Also I had catarac surgery in 2001 and thought that might have helped with the tics. The doctor said I had very dry eyes but figured it was caused by the contant blinking. He did somekind of implant in my eye to clog my tear duk so I had more tears. It had helped my eyes but not my tics. There are days that I lay down and put a wet was rag on my eyes just to prevent them from tics and it is almost like I have now done it so long that it is just a comon instinct. Also I did had botox and it made it worse as then I ticed on the other eyed and side of the face. That is when the doctor said it is a stresser. So right now I will take Xanax like prescribed. I do not feel stress but it is like my face now feels the stress and not my body. Anyone else have these problems.

I can't believe I read almost all the comments on this web site. Entertaining and informative. Thank you for all the advice. My left upper lid has been twitching since March intermittently. I'm ready for a cure!

It feels good to know I'm not the only one.

I'm hoping my eye twitch means I'm pregnant, but won't be able to really test for another couple of days. It's been twitching for about 4 days now, on and off. Annoying as heck.

As for the pregnant folks who are having this trouble and can't take botox (eek), I would try acupuncture. Sounds strange to a Western mind, but it really works, and it wouldn't sound strange to you if you were Chinese.

Oh My Gawd! I am so glad I'm not the only one thinking I was a freak to have had my lower right eye tic for the past 2 weeks. I too have been unable to look directly at my bosses(3 attys) or co-workers. [Yeah, I like the suggestion that we all eye twitchers work together. (LOL)] I was googling "below eye tic" & came to this wonderful informative blog & supportive group of people. Thanks to JASON for starting it all!!! I have definitely learned so much from reading all the other posts. I work in a high stress environment, at a computer all day long, over does the caffeine, early 40's, lacking the sleep w/a 3 yr. old that still doesn't sleep through the night & am a single Mom (90-moi/10 shared custody). Will definitely up my H20, start the bananas & the Cal-Mag powder. Good luck to all. AND THANK YOU ALL FOR THE MUCH NEEDED HUMOR SHARED IN THE POSTS! I COULDN'T STOP LAUGHING ON SOME. =)

Hi everyone,
Been a 'twitcher' for a year and half now, it comes and goes.
But would like to know - to any of you experience slight hand tremors as well? My hands shake visibly (not seriously though) whenever I pick something up, even when I hold the mouse, my forefinger will shake. Talk about embarrassing :-(.
I was wondering whether it was at all related, and I guess asking all of you would be a start?

Hello all, if my eyes were not stressed before they are now from reading this huge forum! :) I've had an EYE twitch now for 2 months straight, like the rest of you its driving me insain :). I have gone to see the doctor, she ordered some blood work, to check electrolytes, magnesium and 3 other test. I'm still waiting to find out those results. She then refered me to the Ophthalmologists. The good news is that everything looks great and I have perfect vision. At 27 i'm the only one in my family (out of 8 of us) who doesnt need glasses. I have no stress, I sleep pretty good. I only drink water with the 1 cup of coffee in the morning but its never effected me before. I eat healthy. The eye doctor did tell me to try 1 benodryl before going to sleep to help relax the face. I'm not a fan of taking meds but I might have to make an exception. I do however start getting a pain in my eye once my has been twitching it for a few hours. I guess the spasems just get to be too much for my eye. WHO KNOWS :( I'll let you know when my blood work comes back. Good luck to everyone, this is a very annoying problem!

My left eye has been twitching for 2 days now and it's driving me crazy. I have had eye twitches in the past but it always was only a few times of the oourse of a few minutes and then it was gone. I have never had one last this long before so I'm concerned as to what is going on. I noticed about 6 months ago that my left pupil is always slightly larger than my right but with no other symptoms and not a drastic difference in size, I was told not to worry. I am wondering if this eye twitch is stress (I am in the middle of a divorce and custody) however the twitch came on when I was relaxed and having fun. Hmmmm, any ideas then let me know. I'm going to try the bananas thing right now!

I just started a new job and I am sure that and taking a diet medication at the same time is what lead to my twitching. I have never had this problem before and I have taken this diet medication, but with the focus on my new job have cut back to only about 20oz of water a day. I stare at a screen all day and then come home and jump right on the computer. My twitch has been going on for 6 days now and I am anxiously awaiting the day I awaken without the insane twitch above my right eye. Maybe I should ask for nap time at my job. That may reduce the fatigue and stress. Wish me luck!

Eye twitching is not as simple as it may look.It is how the third eye in the human body imparts warnings for things to come.
If a woman's right eye lid is twitching she must become very cautious as it may indicate a tragedy or a mishap about to occur. Her left eye lid twitching is usually a good sign.
In a man's case the lower left eye lid twitching can be a warning that there would be difficulty or problem with a spouse.
The upper eye lid may indicate impending problem.
The right lower eye lid is a sign of meeting a lover and the upper right eye lid twitching in men is a sign of good luck.

Cynthia! I really think you should see the Dr. to rule out something more serious! See the above blogs on 6/30/05 about getting an MRI done. I'm still twitch free since I've been eating bananas! Yeah!

I have had a twitchy left eye for a few months now, it tends to get worse if somebody points it out to me. I am 29 and a university student and also a mother of two so I am assuming the stress isn't a good thing. My family keep pestering me to go to the doctorss but I would feel a right muppet going there to tell him my face is twitchy... I have noticed the last week my neck has started twitching but nobody seems to have pointed it out to me thankfully, I have it goes soon it is so annoying... I am glad to see I am not the only one suffering this though!!

Hi All,

I've been sitting here reading everyone's posts about their eye twitches. I've been dealing with the LET (left eye twitch) symptoms too! My upper left eyelid has been twitching off and on all day for 30 days as of today. No days off... and the twitching lasts for anywhere betweem 10 seconds and 30 minutes, with spaces between twitching of the same durations. Anyway, i've been getting worried because i've also been dealing with a few other things too - such as severe headaches and migraines (i do get 1-2 year, but my migraines have been monthly and headaches almost daily), i've been dropping things constantly (about 20 things in a 8 hour workday), i have an AMAZING memory for appointments and i messed up my entire day 3 days ago - 3 appointments scheduled and got all three times wrong. I've been suffering with dizziness and/or vertigo for about 2 months. Pains down my left side and a funny tingly feeling in my baby finger and ring finger. I do have extremely light sensitive eyes, and my left eye has always been slow to focus and dilate. I have an eye appointment booked for next week. I also have TMJ, and i am currently booked with my dentist for a re-alignment appliance. About 2 months ago, i got a scratch on my left eye, and a month later i started dealing with this annoying spasm. I do not know if this has any connection to my twitch. I do not take in ANY caffeine, i eat bananas approx 4 times per week, all i drink is purified water, and the occasional orange pop. I'm lactose intolerant, but i do consume dairy products on occasion. I'm a social drinker - maybe 1-3 per week. My blood pressure is a constant 110/70. I work as a hairstylist, so i am not on a computer all day like some ppl are. I have asked the secretary at my doctor's office if i should book an appointment for my "LET" and she tells me it's really common and that it's probably just stress related. I don't feel stressed...

I'm slowly going through all the posts, and crossing things off my list one by one as to why this stupid eye won't stop... but i'm starting to get really worried. I guess i'll see what my optomitrist says on Tuesday...

My sis-in-law jokingly told me 5 days ago that my LET was contagious... because now she has a twitch in HER left eye too... hmm...

hi..
I have a very weird twitch. It is in my nose - on the left side only. I usually get a twitch on my left side of my head near the temple but now it is on the left side of my nose. It is very annoying. Anyone ever had that? I am not sure what it is but I have a headache as well but I am thinking maybe it is sinus related??

Thank you for everyone's input! I'm a top left eye twitcher and thanks to your site, I tried the bananas and thank The Lord after 5 months straight twitching, it appears to be cured! It kept ME from going bananas! It's something you never quite get used to. Above, one of the ladies mentioned something about foot and hand cramps as a sign of lack of potassium so it totally made sense for me to try the bananas since I had been getting cramps too! My Dr. had just poo-pooed my twitch and my coworkers were about ready to throw me out so I'm so thankful to know that I'm not alone plus many of your accounts gave me much-needed stress relief in the form of laughter! I went a 1/2 day on purpose without eating the bananas to see if the twitch would start again and it did so I ate another couple of bananas and it went away! Many blessings and I'll be praying for all of you that you too will find your cure.

Wow thanks for all the info. I have had a twitch in my left eye for over a week and it is driving me crazy. I am 4 months pregnant and the twitch developed after a bout of morning sickness. I am definatly going to try to increase my water intake but the mineral deficiency seems plausable too. In any case my body is definatly under stress. I'll keep in touch.

Checking in after two years. My twitch stated in early 2006 (right side) and left by April 2006.

It hasn't come back!

I do get 1-3 stutter-type twitches on the LEFT if I close my eyes tight when I sneeze, etc., but it disappears. It does get me nervous though when it happens because it reminds me of the non-stop twitching I had before.

I don't eat bananas regularly anymore and I take magnesium 3-4 times a week. I have always been a water drinker and drink very little caffeine.

My stress is still high (doing my dissertation for my phd now), so that has been steady throughout.

I do acupuncture for my leg spasms and it sometimes helps. But they have continued relentlessly, especially late afternoons.

I hope everyone takes comfort that these twitches can go away, even when it was happening constantly for months. It just doesn't make sense why they occur in the first place and what finally gets them to stop.

Take care everyone!

Ok, my twitch... also a lefty... has been kickin' for quite a while. I think it started up mildly about a month ago, but subsided. Well then I had some financial troubles about 3 weeks ago and the bugger's been fluttering like mad ever since. I also found this blog via google and appreciate very much your posting your eye gripe, Jason. I'm heading off to the local grocery store for a case of tonic water and a crate of bananas. I am losing my MIND!!! I swear, I feel like punching myself in the eye! Ok, I'm kidding. Then it would be BLACK and twitching, and ya think ppl notice the twitch NOW! Black would only draw more attention. Thanks everyone for all the advice.

It was only several days after I posted my initial remarks and, more importantly, made of point of getting much needed rest over the weekend when the twitching finally stopped. Thankfully, it hasn't returned thus far. One other thing I should mention is that I've been trying to eliminate synthetic chemicals from my body by eating organic food, drinking highly-purified water and using more organic/natural lotions and personal products ~ take time to read labels and look into safe ways to detoxify and become healthier, it's worth it.

Hang in there if you've not yet found your solution and remember to be kind to your body - it's your "temple!"

Blessings.

Wow, a lot of eye twitchers out there. My lower left eye has been twitching non-stop for atleast two weeks now and this is the first time I actually looked into it. I mean were talking the speed of 100 twitches a second. Luckily it's only noticeable at close range and I am so used to it now I can't feel it twitching anymore. I guess I have been a little stressed lately and not getting enough sleep but that is pretty normal for me. By the way, I drink more water than any mammal I know, so in my case I don't believe dehydration is the cause. I guess I'll just wait it out and see what happens, unless any of you guys have a good suggestion for me?????

I guess I’ll just wait it out and see what happens, unless any of you guys have a good suggestion for me?????

Just wanted to echo Jackie's comments to thank Jason for starting such a great blog. Its a great support to know that fellow twitchers know what you are going through. Despite my thinking magnesium supplements were the answer - my twitch has returned, although not as bad as before. Its more down the left hand side of my nose now (as well as they eye), which is just as annoying! Shall keep trying the ideas I read here and hopefully the problem will be resolved sooner or later !!

Thank goodness for this site!! Not much else out there seems to be very helpful so far. I've been experiencing this stupid-a.. twitching under my left eye for ~ three weeks 24/7 and started to increasingly become worried; (can't imagine those who've had for months+!!); mine seems to be a capillary or tiny vein, not muscle-related.

I actually have very good BP and eat healthy, exercise, take cal/mag/zinc supplements every other day along w/ daily multi-v, consume little caffine, but don't always drink enough H2O, have been a little more stressed and not getting adequate sleep lately and work on computer most days. But all these things have been pretty normal traits (stress and lack of sleep have been much worse before), so it is a bit perplexing as I can't pinpoint anything that's really changed personally or in my environment. One thing that I did notice lately is foot cramping and that can be caused by low potassium, so hopefully it's that simple - we'll see.

I do feel better just knowing that plenty of other people experience some version of this and are overcoming this absolutely annoying condition! So in my effort to avoid a visit to the MD, at this point anyway, I'm going to try some of the suggestions that have seemed to work for others and if that doesn't work, see an MD. I'll report back if/when something changes (will apply brevity too : )

Thanks to all and Jason for taking the time to provide feedback and keeping this discussion relevant and current. Best to all my fellow twitch-sufferers!
